This was the very first FOSS Backstage!

Wow – The first edition of FOSS Backstage is over and it was amazing! Almost 300 participants joined the event over two days to learn about and discuss FOSS governance, legal and compliance questions, asynchronous collaboration, Open Source Business and many more topics. Thank you all for being part of this and helping create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

We also want to say thank you to all our speakers and partners, to our program committee and everyone who helped spread the word, invited people and provided feedback and ideas. Last but not least we would like to thank the Apache Software Foundation for enriching our conference by co-locating their Apache EU Roadshow with us.

Photos, Videos & Interviews

With the help of our photographer Jan Michalko and our outstanding colleagues from WECAP we have started to upload the photos and videos of the conference to Flickr and YouTube. The video recordings of the Apache EU Roadshow will be added to the Apache Software Foundation’s channel soon.

Furthermore, Rich Bowen sat down with some speakers from both The Roadshow and FOSS Backstage to talk about their projects, talks and free and open source software in general. Watch their conversations on YouTube or listen to them on Feathercast.

If you want to catch up on some talks you missed, we recommend the keynotes by Danese Cooper about 20 years of Open Source and Shane Coughlan about Governance in Open Source. Other highlights from the first conference day included Cultivating Empathy by Leslie Hawthorn and Dajana Günther, Dealing with Contributor Overload by Holden Karau and Managing Conflict in Open Source Communities by George DeMet. Day two followed with highlights from Rich Bowen speaking about Mentoring: Your path to immortality, Shane Curcuru on Who Owns That Open Source Brand? and The Apache Incubator: Raising up projects to raise up the world by Myrle Krantz and Justin Mclean.

Your feedback please!

As this was our first edition, we would like to ask you what you thought and have prepared a feedback survey that takes only a couple of minutes to fill out. If you have any ideas or feedback that does not fit in our survey please feel free to send an email to info@foss-backstage.de

See you next year!
